The Caesar Society
Caesar is my Schnauzer. He's an extremely loved dog who has had what many would call a 'charmed' life - he's never gone without anything (even if I had to), has always had good food, prompt medical care and humans around him who really love him and are good to him. He's the most human-like dog I have ever owned, able to show and voice emotion like none-other I've seen. Schnauzers are very noble breed.
In July 2011, following a major surgery to remove a cancerous growth on his hind leg - Caesar became very ill. He was diagnosed with canine diabetes. After much research on the subject of canine diabetes, I learned that while accurate for the most part, much of the data I found on the Internet was either slanted in support of advertisers trying to sell products, or outdated and not maintained. As a medical professional, not to mention someone who loves his dog, I decided it was time to compile accurate, timely data and make it accessible to those who may be in the same situation.
Sadly, I learned something else during this quest - something I didn't expect: Because of job loss and the ruin of the US economy, a great number of people in the United States who were able to afford prompt medical care for their animals when they acquired them, can no longer afford to take their dogs and cats to the vet. I was lucky in the fact I was able to put back money in a special fund designated strictly for medical care when the time came - which it did, suddenly. I feel strongly that the responsibility to take care of those beings we own - our biological possessions - falls squarely on our shoulders and that when needed, we must swallow our pride and ask for help. To that end, I will continue my research to fight the veterinary medical care disparity and place my findings here as this quest evolves.
Veterinary Medical Care Disparity Resources
If you cannot afford to take your animal to the vet, and your animal is facing a life-threatening illness, contact IMOM. If they can, they will help. They pay the vet directly. NOTE: You must follow the application for assistance request in the exact order of steps listed. If you do not follow the directions carefully and your pet is facing a life-threatening emergency - they will not approve your request.
Follow this link to the IMOM web site. If you can, please (pretty please) give ten bucks to IMOM. Just hit the 'ChipIn' button below to help this honestly worthy cause. You never know, you may need them one day.
